Medical staff at the Butler County jail and Butler Memorial Hospital failed to provide a Richland man with proper medical treatment, leading to his Nov. 12, 2012, death, the man's mother claims in a federal lawsuit filed Friday.

Lynn Greygor, the mother of Derek T. Guidos, 27, is seeking damages against the jail's warden and its medical providers, Wexford Health Sources Inc. of Green Tree, the hospital, the county and its commissioners.

She claims the medical staff ignored her son's symptoms for five days before sending him to the hospital where he died when placed under anesthesia in preparation for surgery to remove a bowel obstruction, the lawsuit says.

A spokeswoman for the hospital had no immediate comment. A spokeswoman for Wexford Health Sources and the Butler County solicitor couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
