A motorcycle collided with a tanker truck on Route 40 Wednesday, killing a Fayette City man.

State police said Matthew R. Jones, 30, of 907 Fayette City Road, died in the 5 p.m. accident. He was pronounced dead at Uniontown Hospital.

Jones was traveling west on Route 40, just west of Jumonville, at a high rate of speed, police said. As Jones negotiated a sharp curve, both westbound lanes of Route 40 ahead were occupied by vehicles and Jones applied the motorcycle's brakes, according to police.

Jones lost control and the motorcycle struck the rear of the tanker truck driven by Glenn Anton Koehler, 38, of Long Lane, Mo. Jones was wearing a helmet.

Koehler was not injured, state police said.
