The Mount Pleasant Township supervisors are seeking a few good names - for roads and streets. The supervisors, like other officials across Westmoreland County, are being asked to rename streets if those names are duplicated in surrounding communities. Township Secretary Ray Zimmerman said Monday that new names are needed for 39 township roads and 150 private roads. The mandate to change duplicate names is coming from the county's Department of Public Safety. "Every Main Street would be a problem," said Zimmerman. "We have three Pine streets. I'm sure there's a Pine Street in Mount Pleasant Borough, too." Private roads with two or more residences must be named as well. The supervisors are asking residents living along such roads to offer suggestions. Zimmerman said people living along the private roads will be mailed letters notifying them of the mandate. Zimmerman said the board is hoping to have new street names in place by February or March. He said there have been no instances where emergency services have responded to the wrong address.
