MP swimmers top CAHS

Dane Dombrosky and Bruce Fennell each won two individual events as the Mount Pleasant boys swim team defeated visiting Connellsville 84-50 in non-section action. Dombrosky qualified for the WPIAL meet with his win in the 200 freestyle (2:01.20), and he added a first in the 100 breastroke (1:18.27). Bruce Fennell won the 50 freestyle (24.83) and 100 freestyle (56.81). Brad Fennell qualified for WPIALs with a first place in the 100 backstroke (1:04.59), and Mark Pauley took top honors in the 100 butterfly (1:18.42). Zach Skovira, Jason Kantorik, Pauley and Andrew Bohatch teamed to win the 200 medley relay (2:19.88). The team of Brad Fennell, Bruce Fennell, Dombrosky and Bohatch won the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.34), and Bruce Fennell, Brad Fennell, Pauley and Dombrosky swam to a first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:53.43), qualifying for WPIALs in that event.

Jared Whoric topped the field in two events for the Falcons. He won the 200 individual medley (2:29.63) and the 500 freestyle (6:00.22).


MP 100, CAHS 70

Jessica Brdar, Marie Nedley and Heidi Halfhill all won a pair of individual events for the Lady Falcons, but Mount Pleasant earned the win on the strength of their second-, third- and fourth-place finishes. Brdar was tops in the 100 butterfly (1:12.38) and 200 individual medley (2:35.61), with Nedley winning the 200 freestyle (2:03.18) and 500 freestyle (5:21.20). Halfhill came in first in the 50 freestyle (26.36) and the 100 freestyle (56.81). The team of Brdar, Nedley, Halfhill and Kaylan Trimboli captured first place in both the 200 medley relay (2:08.98) and 200 freestyle relay (1:53.93).

Jaclyn Hilderbrand was tops in the 100 backstroke (1:15.35) for the Lady Vikings, and Cassey Hauser won the 100 breastroke (1:17.58). Nicole Capozzi, Hauser, Sarah Wright and Stephanie Williams combined for a victory in the 400 freestyle relay (4:21.62).

Connellsville will host Derry on Monday, and Mount Pleasant will entertain Ligonier Valley on Tuesday.

Boys Basketball


MP 63, EF 57

Bobby Brooks racked up 28 points as Mount Pleasant got past host Elizabeth Forward. Rob Patula tossed in 11.

Steve Sweich paced the Warriors with 22 points, and Jason Springer and Jake Greco netted 12 each.

The Vikings will host Jeannette today in the first game of Mount Pleasant’s own basketball tournament.
