The way has been cleared to resume testing Tysabri, a multiple sclerosis drug pulled from the market after two patient deaths. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave the OK to Biogen Idec and Elan Corp., raising the possibility that the drug will go on sale later this year, the Wall Street Journal said Thursday. An FDA advisory committee plans to review Tysabri March 7 to consider whether benefits outweigh the risk. Biogen said it expects a "major approval." MS patients who benefited from Tysabri reportedly have been clamoring for the drug, which also has shown positive results for Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis. Tysabri suppresses the immune system. © Copyright 2006 by United Press International
