If you have a talent — any talent — pick up an application for "Mt. Pleasant's Got Talent."

The event will be held during the Mt. Pleasant Glass and Ethnic Festival, set for Sept. 23 through 25.

The event welcomes talented acts from the area.

For 10 years, the festival presented a "Battle of the Singers" contest. Last year, the festival committee decided to try a different format, showcasing an array of different talents in lieu of only singers.

"We decided that we needed to change it," said event organizer Darlene Trout. "We wanted to include different types of talent."

The contest premiered at last year's festival and was well attended for all three nights.

"The people enjoyed it," said festival co-chairman Jeff Landy. "We wanted to expand it. To offer more types and kinds of talent just like the television show."

Trout said singers, dancers, magicians, and novelty acts will be welcomed. Acts can be solo or groups.

The contest is open to all ages and anyone under 18 years of age must have a signed slip by a parent or guardian.

"I was really pleased with the different ages that we had last year," Trout said. "We had singers that were as young as 8. That's what it's all about. All kinds of talent from all ages."

The contest will be compiled of the acts performed by the first 12 completed applications that are received.

Each act will then have three minutes to perform. Each contestant must provide their own music.

The first six contestants will complete on Friday and the second six will compete on Sunday.

The top three from each of those nights will then compete later on Sunday for the finals.

A panel of three judges will decide who moves on.

"This is an event that we have wanted to expand and develop a little more," Landy said. "The first year, the response was good, but we would like to see it get even better."

"It was an entertaining part of last year's festival and we think that it will be even better this year," said festival committee co-chairman Jerry Lucia. "This is our big year, our 25th, and we hope to have a lot more exciting things going on."

Entry forms can be obtained at the Mt. Pleasant Borough Office or by contacting Trout at 724-547-9632.
