Mt Pleasant students get into 'Smart'
Mt. Pleasant Area High School is planning to "Get Smart."
The theater department will resurrect Maxwell Smart and his beautiful sidekick, Agent 99, for three shows this weekend in the high school auditorium.
The storyline, director Melissa Baran admits, has always been one of her favorites.
"Plus, we like to do something people can relate to," she says. "Parents see what we're doing and be like, 'Oh, I know what that is.' And they'll come and see it."
"Get Smart" has also been a little easier on the school's wallet than some of the higher-priced musical productions.
"Period costumes are really hard to get when you're on a budget," Baran says. "The '60s are kind of easy to mimic because a lot of fashion now is throwback."
As a result, the students have "really gotten into it," says the director. "I guess they can relate it to 'Austin Powers.'"
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday; 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students.
