Summer road work is ongoing in Mt. Pleasant Township.

During the monthly meeting of the municipality's board of supervisors, Supervisor Duane Hutter said while township road crews have been making headway on many of the roads that are scheduled for chipping, the excessive summer rainfall during the past several weeks has presented a detrimental factor.

“We're a little behind because of the weather, so please be patient with us while we work on the roads,” he said.

Work crews have experienced many people not driving cautiously in areas where road work is taking place, said Supervisor Jack Rutkowski, the board's president.

“Please be courteous when you see people flagging and drive slowly,” Rutkowski said.

He also is asking residents to be considerate of their neighbors.

“Please keep your yard clean, and don't burn unless it's during the scheduled burning time of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday,” Rutkowski said.

Supervisors also approved a $250 donation to the Jacobs Creek Area Faith in Action. The organization provides volunteer companionship and assistance to help local seniors remain living in their homes independently.

“They help quite a few people in our township, and we feel it's important to look out for our senior citizens,” Supervisor Frank Puskar said.

In other business, supervisors granted final approval to the Laskey Plan No. 3 located along State Route 981 and to the Whitehorn Avenue Consolidation Plan and also approved a modification request.

Final conditional approval was given to Cherry Wood Estates Phase 2 located along State Route 981.

The next recycling date for township residents will be Aug. 6.

There will also be a Household Hazardous Waste Collection conducted by Westmoreland Cleanways on 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Westmoreland County Community College campus near Youngwood.

Rutkowski also reminded residents that the annual Kecksburg Volunteer Fire Department's Old Fashion Days & UFO Festival will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
