Rental spaces in Mt. Pleasant’s In-Town Shops are almost full.

The Mt. Pleasant Downtown Business District Authority said during its annual public meeting there is only one unit that is not rented out — a second floor, two-bedroom apartment.

Board President Nino Barsotti said the apartment was just renovated. The authority hopes to have that space rented soon.

The In-Town Shops is located on Main Street. The authority purchased the former Woolworth’s Department Store years ago and opened it as the area’s first retail incubator. The incubator gives new entrepreneurs a low-cost opportunity to start and grow a new business.

The authority discussed projects it plans to continue into 2012.

Barsotti said a sign project and planter project that were implemented last year will continue.

The authority hopes to expand upon the street project, adding a sidewalk project and tree-planting project.

“We’d like to do a sidewalk project for the improvement of the sidewalks and possibly some tree installation,” Barsotti said. The authority is studying the implementation of a facade and painting program.

Barsotti said the authority also is working to improve its website and Facebook pages as a means of better communication.

The authority’s Facebook page is entitled “Pleasantly Surprised,” said office manager Louann Hout.

“You visit Mt. Pleasant Pleasantly Surprised to see what our town has to offer,” she said.

Barsotti said any business in the borough willing to be a part of the Facebook page can do so at no charge.

The BDA hopes to expand the Farmers Market. Those interested in participating should call the office at 724-547-0660. The Farmers Market runs mid-summer through late October.

“If you make, bake it or grow it, you can bring it to sell at the Farmers Market,” said BDA Secretary Charlotte Mowry.
