A warrant was issued Tuesday for a Mt. Washington man accused of causing severe head injuries that left a 5 12-month-old girl “technically brain dead,” a criminal complaint states.

Kenneth Reeves, 29, is charged by Pittsburgh homicide detectives with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child for “abusive head trauma” to Kamero Newton, who lost consciousness and quit breathing shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday at her home in Knoxville, the complaint states.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office said Tuesday night that it has been notified that the child has died.

Kamero's mother told police that she left the girl alone with her boyfriend, Reeves, on the third floor while she went downstairs to fix snacks for other children and play a Christmas movie for them. A few minutes later, she heard Kamero crying loudly. She ran back upstairs and picked up the child, who quit breathing in her arms, the complaint states.

Reeves, who has convictions for endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated assault, gave police a false identity, the complaint states. He denied knowing anything about what happened to Kamero and was allowed to leave after being told he would be cited for carrying suspected heroin and a suboxine pill, according to the complaint.
