Mt. Washington's Isabela on Grandview closing its doors

After six years of hosting diners, owner George Merrick will close Isabela on Grandview on July 31.

An intimate 50-table fine-dining restaurant with a 210-degree view of Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle, Isabela has been a fixture on Mt. Washington since 1999.

Over the years, Isabela has been reported on by national media such as Bon Appetite, New York magazine and The Wall Street Journal.

Mondays through Fridays, Isabela offers a choice of a la carte dining or a $75 five-course prix fixe menu. On Saturdays, only the prix fixe menu is available.

Plans are under way to offer a special menu through the end of July.

Merrick and his son Colter bought the restaurant from Christopher and William Passodalis in August 2009.

The property is available for purchase with or without the business assets along with an additional parcel adjacent to the building that would increase options for expansion and/or re-development as a restaurant or a residential conversion.

“I'm so grateful to my wonderful employees, family, friends and loyal patrons who have made the experience of running Isabela unforgettable. ... I hope to see as many of our clientele as possible prior to closing, so I can thank them for their patronage personally,” says George Merrick, who plans to retire for family health reasons.
