Mueller, Ambridge take down Montour in nonsection action
Heather Mueller went 3 for 3 with a home run to lead Class AAA No. 2 Ambridge to a 7-2 win over Class AAA No. 1 Montour (4-2) in nonsection play Tuesday.
Pitcher Hannah Smith had a double and got the win for Ambridge (6-1).
South Allegheny 6, Steel Valley 4 — Marissa D’Angelo, Taylor Geary and Nicole Mihalic had doubles for South Allegheny (2-3, 2-1) as the Gladiators picked up a Section 4-AA win. Jaicey Stegena hit her third home run in as many games, and Katey Potopenko hit her fourth in four games for Steel Valley (2-3, 1-1).
North Allegheny 13, Mt. Lebanon 3 — Bonnie Pierson had a three-run home run and four RBI, and teammate Laura Cotter had a three-run homer for North Allegheny (4-2) in its nonsection win over Mt. Lebanon. Kaitlin Klinchock had a home run for Mt. Lebanon (1-3).
OLSH 7, Brentwood 6 — Sophia Worrall’s game-winning RBI double helped OLSH edge Brentwood (1-2, 1-1) in Section 1-AA.
Elizabeth Forward 5, Ringgold 1 — Portia McBride struck out 12 over seven innings, as Elizabeth Forward defeated Ringgold (0-2, 0-1) in a Section 3-AAA matchup.
Keystone Oaks 16, Bishop Canevin 0 — Bre Coyle’s home run and four-RBI performance gave Keystone Oaks a Section 1-AA victory over Bishop Canevin (0-4, 0-2).
Peters Township 13, Seneca Valley 0 (5 inn.) — Tori Weida went 2 for 2 with three RBI, and Tara Knopka struck out six for Peters Township in its nonsection win over Seneca valley (5-1).
Sewickley Academy 14, Hopewell 3 (5 inn.) — Kat Tobel went 4 for 4 and drove in three runs, as Sewickley Academy (1-1) defeated Hopewell.
Riverview 15, Northgate 0 (3 inn.) — Hannah Larkin threw a no-hitter, and Haley Buschser went 3 for 3 with a double, home run and five RBI for Riverview (3-1), as it cruised past Northgate (0-4) in nonsection.
West Allegheny 12, Moon 1 (6 inn.) — Cristina Alati had three singles and three RBI for West Allegheny in its Section 2-AAA win over Moon (1-5, 0-1).
South Fayette 8, Washington 2 — Ashley Iagnemma was the winning pitcher and hit a double in South Fayette’s Section 2-AA win over Washington (1-3, 0-1).
Bethel Park 6, Yough 5 (8 inn.) — Kiersten Frankert pitched a complete game and struck out six for Bethel Park in its nonsection, extra-inning affair with Yough (1-3).
Canon-McMillan 3, Chartiers Valley 0 — Alayna Astuto struck out 14 for the Big Macs (3-2) in their nonsection win over Chartiers Valley (4-2).
Norwin 6, Hempfield 1 — Norwin ended one of the longest streaks in WPIAL softball, defeating rival Hempfield for the first time in more than 17 years. Jamie Robinson scattered four hits and earned the win, while Maddie Wensel went 3 for 3 and Nikki Ingel had a double for the Knights (4-1, 1-0). Class AAAA No. 5 Hempfield fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in section.
Ligonier Valley 21, Derry 2 — Kristen Gabelt drove in six runs with a grand slam and two-run homer, and Ligonier Valley (5-1) rolled to a nonsection vcitory. The Rams’ Breane Wallace had two hits, including a two-run homer.
Latrobe 10, Kiski Area 0 (5 inn.) — Sophomore pitcher Olivia Gumbita struck out nine and allowed one hit in Latrobe’s five-inning victory. Carmella Moffa had a double and drove in two runs for the Wildcats (4-3, 2-0). Latrobe also got doubles from Rachel Conrad and Ashley Perillo.
Elizabeth Forward 5, Ringgold 1 — Portia McBride struck out 12 over seven innings, as Elizabeth Forward defeated Ringgold (0-2, 0-1) in a Section 3-AAA matchup. Caitlyn Arica went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs for Elizabeth Forward (3-0, 1-0).
Greensburg Central Catholic 2, Southmoreland 0 — The Centurions scored two runs in the top of the first inning and it proved to be the difference in their Section 4-AA win over Southmoreland (3-2, 1-0). Anna Marie Gatti got the win for Greensburg Central Catholic (4-1, 2-0) and Nikki Adisey had a double.
Penn-Trafford 6, Albert Gallatin 0 — Abrianna Sadler picked up the win for Penn-Trafford in its Section 1-AAAA win over Albert Gallatin (0-4, 0-2). Alexis Ryan had three singles for Penn-Trafford (3-2, 1-1).
Belle Vernon 3, Greensburg Salem 2 — Haley Bashada earned the win and hit a solo home run for Belle Vernon (5-1) in its nonsection win over Greensburg Salem (2-2).
South Fayette 8, Washington 2 — Ashley Iagnemma was the winning pitcher and hit a double in South Fayette’s Section 2-AA win over Washington (1-3, 0-1). Kristen Hardt also had a double for South Fayette (3-3, 2-0).
Bethel Park 6, Yough 5 (8 inn.) — Kiersten Frankert pitched a complete game and struck out six for Bethel Park in its nonsection, extra-inning affair with Yough (1-3). Frankert had a double and a triple, and teammate Shelby Reid had a pair of doubles for Bethel Park (2-3).
Monessen 12, Charleroi 9 — Taylor Guzzie picked up the win for Monessen in its nonsection victory over Charleroi (1-3). Cara Grogan had a home run and five stolen bases for Monessen (2-2).
Mt. Pleasant 10, East Allegheny 0 (6 inn.) — Paige Hertzog hit a two-run homer, and winning pitcher Leigha Pehrson had five strikeouts as the Vikings (4-1, 1-0) opened play in Section 4-AA with a win. Derica Crowley doubled and drove in two runs, and Trasara Halterman doubled and singled. Shayla Landman had two RBI.
Serra Catholic 5, Avella 3 — Wayne Hydak went 2 for 2 with a two-run double in the fourth to give Serra Catholic (4-1, 1-0) to get the win.
