N. Charleroi mom on probation charged again
A North Charleroi woman is accused of taking along her two children on a drug deal set up through a police informant.
Amy Levkulich, 34, of Center Avenue allegedly brought 16 Oxycodone pills to the Feb. 27 exchange arranged through a Charleroi Regional Police confidential informant, according to the criminal complaint.
Police said the informant sent Levkulich a text message around 3:14 p.m. to set up the alleged drug deal. Levkulich then allegedly called the informant and said she'd bring him $100 worth of Oxycodone 15 mg pills. They arranged to meet at the Magic City Mart in lower Speers, according to the complaint filed by Officer Michael Leasure.
While under police surveillance outside the Magic City Mart, the informant allegedly gave Levkulich $100 in marked cash in exchange for 16 Oxycodone pills in an unlabeled prescription bottle, the complaint states. She was allegedly sitting in the passenger seat of a Chevrolet Trailblazer holding the cash when police moved in.
As Levkulich and the driver, her husband Michael J. Levkulich Jr., were taken out of the SUV, police saw two children, ages 9 and 6, in the back seat, according to the complaint. Police called Lea Ann Bly to pick up her grandchildren. Police also contacted Washington County Children and Youth Services.
During questioning at the police station, Amy Levkulich allegedly said her husband “had no idea what she was doing at the gas station,” the complaint states.
She is charged with felony counts of criminal use of a communication facility and manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of children, possession of a controlled substance and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
Michael Levkulich, 34, was charged with driving without a license and driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked, police said. He was cited and released.
Amy Levkulich was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Larry Hopkins of Charleroi and sent to the Washington County Correctional Facility on $75,000 straight cash bond. She is also being held on a Washington County parole detainer.
She faces a preliminary hearing before Hopkins 9 a.m. March 12.
Another case involving children
Last week's alleged incident isn't the first time Amy Levkulich was arrested with children in tow.
On June 11, 2012, she was charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in Monongahela. Her van was stopped after customers at Sheetz alerted city police about a woman falling over in the store. The witnesses informed police there were numerous children in her van and that she appeared to be intoxicated. Police observed eight children in the vehicle, including two young girls sitting in the aisle, according to court records.
She pleaded guilty Feb. 7, 2013, to DUI-controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and driving without vehicle insurance. Washington County Court of Common Pleas Senior Judge Katherine B. Emery sentenced her to three days to six months in jail, followed by six months probation.
She was arrested again for DUI and driving without a license Oct. 25, 2013, in Carroll. She was also charged with possession of a controlled substance during the traffic stop.
She pleaded guilty April 22, 2014, to DUI-highest rate of alcohol/second offense and driving with a suspended license. Washington County Judge John F. DiSalle sentenced her to six to 18 months in jail.
