Tony Fusaro has spent most of his life in Blawnox and now it's where he'll continue his professional career.
Fusaro opened Alpha Athletics earlier this month and serves as head coach.
The gym features classes specializing in the CrossFit program.
The space along Freeport Road was formerly a bakery.
Fusaro said he had been looking for a place to open his own gym after getting encouragement from his girlfriend to branch out and start his own facility.
“I decided to take that chance finally and do it on my own,” Fusaro said.
The program features a different workout each day. Participants are told to cheer each other on as they complete each task.
He credits that social interaction as a reason why the program has gained popularity.
“That breeds relationships that you don't typically get (at a gym),” Fusaro said.
Fusaro said he has built a list of contacts in the CrossFit field through business trips to help him improve the program offered.
“I've spent the last two year ingraining myself into the community,” Fusaro said.
Fusaro said with many gyms offering a CrossFit program, he hopes to establish himself in Blawnox and stand out.
“My goal is simply to be the best coach that I can,” Fusaro said.
