Jones Lang La Salle, a large Chicago-based property management firm, said Wednesday it is opening a Pittsburgh call center that will initially create 88 jobs within three years. The company, which signed a long-term lease at the 525 William Penn Place office building Downtown, says the new employee number could hit 150 by 2011. It also is expected to retain 70 local jobs in what will be the relocation and consolidation of what is known as its National Property Service Center. The company is moving the center from Atlanta to Pittsburgh, where it already has an office. Jones Lang LaSalle will get a $487,000 package of state aid to assist the move. The package includes a $250,000 grant, $61,600 in job training funds and $176,000 in tax credits. “Jones Lang LaSalle’s jobs could have gone to Michigan or stayed in Georgia, but the company chose to relocate to the commonwealth because of the incentives we offered,” Gov. Ed Rendell said. Jones Lang LaSalle, which estimated the overall cost of the move will be $1.8 million, said it is expecting significant growth in call center operations and lease administration. The company already manages nearly 7 million square feet of space at various buildings in the region, including offices occupied by Mellon Financial Corp. and Citizens Bank. It also provides tenant representation for others companies with facilities here. “Our lease administration business has been adding 10 to 15 additional employees per year, and that experience has taught us that Pittsburgh is a great place to grow a business,” said J.C. Pelusi, managing director of the existing Pittsburgh office. “This region has a lot to offer: a high quality workforce, a central location and strong public-sector investments in business development at the state and local level.” Signing of the lease brings occupancy at the 41-story 525 William Penn Place building to about 86 percent, said Rob Geiger and Scott Astorino, commercial brokers with Grant Street Associates, who represented Mellon Bank, the building’s owner, in the leasing transaction. The 942,665-square-foot building, also widely known as Three Mellon Center, also houses Mellon offices and serves as the Downtown local headquarters of Citizens Bank.
