LaserLyte has introduced a universal laser bore sighter capable of working in rifles and handguns in calibers from .22 to .50. Four expandable caliber adapters let you match the laser unit to the barrel of your firearm. Once that’s done, and when turned on, the laser sighter emits a bright red beam that diverges to a red dot three inches wide at 100 yards. When the dot is projected on a target, you adjust the scope reticle or iron sights to make that our point of impact. You’re then sighted in. The bore sighter can be used indoors or out, and at distances from 25 feet to 100 yards (though you get your greatest accuracy at the longer distances). A special target that comes with the sight makes sighting in at the closer distances possible. The bore sighter is made of aircraft aluminum and comes with batteries and a nylon carrying case. Suggested retail price is $61.50. For information: write LaserLyte, 101 Airpark Road, Cottonwood AZ 86326; call 928-649-3201; or click here . Lure of the weekFloat ‘N Fly Company : Spro Sports Professionals ( Click here. ) Lure type : Jig Sizes and colors : Available in nine colors, all in a 1/16-ounce model. Target species : Smallmouth and largemouth bass and panfish. Technique : Work these jigs delicately on light line beneath a small float to trigger letharigic bass to strike. The fly moves in pendulum fashion as the bobber is pulled forward, so by varying your presentation speed from ultra-slow to erratic and fast, you can vary the action of the lure. Fished with a conventional snap-on bobber at water depths of one to eight feet with a seven-foot spinning rod, this lure allows for targeted fishing. They can also be fished with a slip-thru bobber in deeper water, too. Sugg. retail price : $1.99. Notable : Once thought of solely as a cold-weather lure for catching smallmouths, the Float ‘N Fly is becoming more popular with tournament anglers at all times of year. As spawning fish move onto their beds in the spring, Floar ‘N Flies can generate good strikes. Tip of the week When picking a new knife, you’d be wise to consider the type of steel used in the blade. A quality blade has good edge retention, is easy to re-sharpen and is rust resistant, but not all are equally good in all respects. Blades made with S30V steel — the best all-around blade material there is — have good edge retention. Blades made with 154CM and BG-42 steels have much higher carbon content, giving them higher hardness ratings and dramatically higher edge retention. Blades with 420HC stainless steel provide excellent rust resistance and are easy to re-sharpen.
