NEW KENSINGTON -- City Police Chief Chuck Korman said Tuesday afternoon that police officers still need to talk to an Arnold man who was stabbed in the stomach and taken to Allegheny General Hospital on Monday evening.

Detective Lt. Ron Zellers said the victim, Justin Bayne, 22, of Alcoa Drive, was in fair condition at the Pittsburgh hospital Tuesday evening.

Bayne was stabbed in the stomach in the city's Mount Vernon neighborhood during an argument about heroin just after 8 p.m. Monday, according to police.

Joseph M. Jones, 19, of is accused of stabbing Bayne in the stomach with a butterfly knife. Jones allegedly tossed the knife into the woods following the stabbing, but Zellers said police have been unable to locate the weapon.

Jones lives on Vernon Street around the corner from where the stabbing took place -- on the sidewalk of Center Avenue.

Jones is charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and possession of drug paraphernalia.

District Justice Charles Conway arraigned Jones and placed him in the Westmoreland County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. June 3 before District Justice Frank J. Pallone Jr.
