New parking rules OK’d in Uniontown

Drivers in Uniontown are now subject to new parking regulations. City Council on Wednesday adopted a revised parking ordinance designating Penn Street between North Gallatin Avenue and Court Street one-way. Only passenger vehicles can drive north on Court Street from Peter Street to Main Street. Trucks must turn north onto Court Street. No parking is permitted on Court Street, from Penn Street to Main Street. Violators are subject to a $100 fine and towing. Two-hour free parking spaces in the north lane of Main Street will be provided from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. Main Street from Church Street to Corporate Crossing Road will be a no-parking area from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Violators will be fined $50 and are subject to towing. The ordinance is now in effect. In other business, = Police Chief Kyle Sneddon recommended closing the upper part of Jaquette Place, near Bailey Park, to prevent possible traffic accidents. Mayor James Sileo agreed and the road will be temporarily closed, pending a traffic study, which is necessary to change the portion of the street permanently. = Council voted to purchase property at 45 E. Penn St. from the estate of Dorothy K. Trusio for $165,000, taking out a tax anticipation loan for the purchase. The property will be used for a new police station. Sneddon thanked council and said that the department has outgrown its present quarters. = Sneddon reported that police responded to 766 incidents in June and made 71 criminal arrests. He said that serious crime is down in the city. = Sileo asked residents to keep their grass cut and their weeds pulled. = The summer library program continues at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday at Bailey Park. Individuals do not have to live in Uniontown to attend. = Family Day at Idlewild will take place Aug. 4 in pavilion C-3. Admission is $15 for individuals 2 years old and older. Children 2 years old and younger are admitted for $5. Admission and bus transportation cost $22, for any age.
