Pine-Richland High School will have a new principal this summer.

Nancy Bowman, 47, of Center, Beaver County, was named the principal last week by the Pine-Richland School Board.

Bowman will start July 1 at an annual salary of $117,500. She said she is excited to get back in a school building and work with students and teachers directly. In addition to her administrative experience, Bowman has also served as a science teacher and gifted support teacher.

“I enjoy what I do, but it doesn't give me that day-in day-out contact with students, and that's what I most enjoy about being an educator,” she said.

Bowman will replace John Pietrusinski, who announced his intention to leave his position as principal and get back into the classroom earlier this spring. He will teach math at Pine-Richland Middle School next school year.

Bowman has served as director of curriculum at Blackhawk School District for the past three years. Prior to that, she was the principal at Blackhawk's Highland Middle School for 10 years.

Superintendent Brian Miller said they look forward to seeing Bowman in her new role.

“She is a proven performer focused on enhancing a positive culture for students, staff and the community,” Miller said. “At the same time, she has high expectations for student learning.”

With her recent background in designing and writing curriculum, Bowman expects she will be an asset to the district as it begins its new curriculum review process over the next year.

“I have a passion for (working with) students,” she said. “It's my passion to help them with whatever they need to meet their goals and their needs, especially with working at a district level over curriculum and programs.”

Bowman earned her bachelor's degree in secondary education biology at Penn State University and a master's degree in administration and policy studies from the University of Pittsburgh.

She is certified as a K-12 principal and enrolled in the superintendent letter of eligibility program at the University of Pittsburgh as well.
