Traffic was briefly restricted on Tuesday morning after a tractor-trailer overturned along the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
State police at New Stanton said Barclay K. Barry of Scottdale lost control of a 2001 Freightliner about 7 a.m. as he merged onto the westbound lanes of the turnpike from a New Stanton interchange ramp. The vehicle, which was carrying rolls of wire, flipped and landed on its left side, spilling cargo into both travel lanes.
Barclay was wearing his seat belt and was not injured, police said.
Carl DeFebo, turnpike spokesman, said traffic was flowing within 12 minutes in a single-lane, alternating pattern.
“We never really had any major traffic issues,” he said. “We were able to manage the volume by alternating … traffic between the on-ramp and the main line without delays.”
DeFebo said a truck was brought in to lift the tractor-trailer off the road and move it to the shoulder. By 11:30 a.m., the wreckage had been removed.
There was a minor diesel spill as a result of the accident. DeFebo said it was handled by turnpike maintenance workers.
