Two New York City men are in jail after police in Mercer County discovered nine pounds of heroin in a hidden compartment on their car during a traffic stop, according to police.
The incident happened just before 9 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek, according to a release from Pennsylvania State Police.
Police stopped the men for a traffic violation, and a search of the car reveled a hidden compartment filled with four kilograms of suspected raw heroin, police said in the release.
Habys Omar Meran, 29, and Juan Wilquin Hernandez, 35, both of New York City, are both charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia, court records show.
Both men remained in the Mercer County Prison Wednesday, unable to post the $200,000 bail set for each. Preliminary hearings are set for Feb. 3.
