‘Drama of Cross’ to be re-enacted

ETNA: The eighth annual presentation of the “Drama of the Cross” will begin at noon on Good Friday, at the Etna Playground along Pine Street off Maplewood at Butler Street.

Members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, First Congregational Church, Calvert Memorial Presbyterian Church and All Saints Roman Catholic Church will take part in the re-creation of The Crucifixion and line the streets as crowd as the crowd did in Jerusalem on the first Good Friday.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Huge Easter egg hunt planned

SHARPSBURG: The “World’s Largest East Egg Hunt and Carnival” will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Easter Sunday, at Kennedy Park, Sharpsburg.

There will be more than 10,000 eggs to be found plus carnivvval games, a moonwalk, hay rides, petting zoo, kids stage show, clowns, puppets, prizes, face painting, hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy.

There is no cost. Parents are welcome.

The event will be provided by the Sharpsburg Family Worship Center in Sharpsbburg.

Volunteers sought for O’Hara posts

O’HARA: Residents are needed to fill two volunteer positions. The Parks and Recreation Commission is in need of an at-large member to serve a four-year term. Members offer recommendations and advice to council. Meetings are generally conducted once per month.

Additionally, one individual is needed to fill a six-year term as an auditor. The auditor will serve in an advisory capacity on an as- needed basis.Interested residents should call Douglas Arndt, township manager at 412-782-1400 or e-mail darndt@ohara.pa.us.

Blawnox unit sponsors fish fry

BLAWNOX: Blawnox-Glenover Volunteer Fire Company will have its annual Good Friday Fish Fry on March 29 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the borough building, 376 Freeport Road.

Fish dinners are $6 and include a sandwich, cole slaw, soft drink and a choice of french fries, pierogi or macaroni and cheese. An Ala Cart menu also will be available. Proceeds benefit the Blawnox-Glenover Fire Co.

INDIANA TOWNSHIP: Trinity United Church of Christ, 3712 Saxonburg Boulevard will have several Holy Week and Easter season events.

…Thursday 6:30 p.m.: The congregation will gather in Fellowship Hall for a meatless mmeal and service of Holy Communion. There also will be a candle lighting service. …Good Friday 7:30 p.m.: Service with lessons and hymns in the sanctuary. An account of the first Good Friday will be read. …Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: The Youth Group’s car wash in the church parking lot to raise money for their activities and community outreach projects. …Easter Sunday 8:30 a.m.: “Son”-rise Service followed by a continental breakfast. An old-fashioned Easter egg hunt will follow for children of all ages. …Easter Sunday 11 a.m.: The morning will conclude with a family Easter worship. Nursery care will be provided for the 11 a.m. service only.Guests are welcome to all events. Blood bank needs to boost supply

The Central Blood Bank announced the supply of all blood types is declining especially the inventory of group O blood, the universal blood type, which is the most frequently used in traumas and accidents.

Anyone who is eligible to donate is encouraged to do so now. Group O blood types and A positive are especially needed.

Blood donors must be at least 17, weigh 110 pounds, have a positive I.D. and be in generally good health. There is no upper age limit and most medications are acceptable.

FC PAGE award nominnations due

The nomination deadline for the Fox Chapel Area PAGE Challenge Award is April 12. The Fox Chapel Area Association for Gifted Education is sponsoring the award that recognizes outstanding teachers in the Fox Chapel Area School District who have intellectually challenged, motivated and created an environment of high expectations and high levels of excitement for high ability students.

Any Fox Chapel Area teacher, staff member, or administrator is eligible, including, but not limited to QUEST teachers. Previous winners may also be nominated. Any teacher, administrator, parent or student can make a nomination, which should include a completed nomination form and a statement of up to 500 words explaining the reasons for the nomination.

Local restaurant offers scholarship

SHARPSBURG: May 1 is the application deadline for Jimmy G’s Restaurant’s Scholarship Program.

The purpose of the scholarship program is to offer financial assistance to a high school, culinary school, or college student interested in pursuing a career in the food service industry.
