Harrisburg
Guidebook
For the first time, conservation and environmental organizations have produced a guidebook to Pennsylvania's current environmental issues.
The League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (LCVEF) and the Pennsylvania Conservation Voters Education League (PCVEL) released the "Pennsylvania Key Conservation and Environment Issues Briefing Book, 2002," which provides detailed information on the major environmental issues facing Pennsylvania. Summaries provide background information and key recommendations for addressing these issues, identifying how elected officials and policy makers can adopt environmental policies that protect citizens and natural resources.
For copies, contact LCVEF's Susan Gobreski at 215-557-9242 or Phil Coleman at PACVEL at 717-234-2651. The Pennsylvania Environmental Briefing Book may be downloaded at: http://www.voteenvironment.org/stateresources_penn.html

Connellsville
Agreement
The Connellsville City Council has reached a tentative agreement with the union representing city workers in the street department. Council agreed to enter into the three-year agreement with the United Steel Workers of America, thereby avoiding the lengthy and expensive arbitration process. Although details of the agreement have not yet been released, councilman Bruce Jaynes did say that the agreement may include at least a 4 percent wage increase.
Representatives of the union agreed to meet with members of the new administration to try to avoid arbitration proceedings. Council is also meeting with union representatives to attempt to come to an agreement with the firefighters union as well.
Connellsville
Park unavailable
With spring just around the corner, many residents have already begun requesting the use of East Park for various functions.
Unfortunately due to renovations, East Park will not be available this season and possibly a portion of next season as well. Connellsville City Council member Chris Wagner reminds residents that other parks including Yough Park are still available but are filling up fast. She suggests anyone interested in reserving Yough Park, call city hall at 724-628-2020 as soon as possible.
