Tax seminar scheduled at Connellsville Sr. High
A two-tier tax seminar will be held at the Connellsville Senior High School, Room 128, at 7 p.m. Feb. 27.
Jim Hercik of the Fayette County Tax Assessment office, will lead the panel discussion concerning the pros and cons of the city of Connellsville's two-tier tax currently in place.
Concerned citizens and members of the business community are encouraged to attend and voice their questions and concerns.
Tax help for elderly available
Free tax help is available through TCE, the Tax Counseling for the Elderly program, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays through April 11 at Room 2302, Commissioners Hall, Westmoreland County Community College, Youngwood. This program offers free assistance to students, elderly, those with lower incomes, disabled and non-English speaking taxpayers who file form 1040EZ, Form 1040Z or basic Form 1040 federal tax returns. Taxpayers should bring this year's tax package, wage and earnings statements (form W-2) from all employers, interest statements from banks (form 1099), copy of last year's tax return if available and other relevant information about income and expenses. Tax counseling will be held every Thursday except March 28.
