Former Dickerson Run resident Dawn Manzella, 31, was murdered in her Akron, Ohio, home on Feb. 13. No court date has been set for suspect Lawrence L. Murphy, 38.

According to Akron police Sergeant Ray Youngklin, Manzella's parents suspected something was wrong when she had not been in touch since Feb. 6.

"They said it wasn't like her not to be in touch," said Youngklin.

Her father, Anthony Manzella, requested that police break into her home on Feb. 14. They found her dead of a single gunshot wound to the head.

"Murphy was her live-in boyfriend and the only suspect. We have his statement about the crime. His (statement) suppression hearing has already been denied," the policeman reported.

Murphy has been charged with aggravated murder, involuntary manslaughter, possession of cocaine, having weapons while under disability, and a misdemeanor charge of failure to report a crime. He was arrested Feb. 16. He is in the Summit County Jail under $100,000 bond.
