Armstrong School District will continue its program offering members of the community the opportunity to walk for exercise in the corridors of all school district buildings. Residents are permitted to walk in the buildings between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. beginning Nov. 21 and concluding April 13. Walking in the schools will not be possible on holidays or when schools are closed due to inclement weather. Adults and children who are interested in participating in the program are asked to register in office of their community school prior to the beginning of the program. Children are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Registrants will be issued a pass permitting access to the building at that time.
Safety check in West Kittanning
During this week, the West Kittanning Police Department will hold a safety enforcement check which will include a seatbelt check on Arthur Street. A seat belt check will be held on Pine Hill Road in the future. Traffic enforcement safety will be conducted throughout the holiday season.
Congressman hosts phone town hall
U.S. Rep Mark S. Critz , D-Johnstown, will host a telephone town hall meeting, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Nov. 16 for 40,000 constituents of the 12th Congressional District in Armstrong, Cambria, Indiana, and Somerset counties.
It is Critz’s eighth telephone town hall for constituents ask him questions. At 6:30 p.m. calls will go out asking residents to participate in the event. Critz will provide a short update on current legislation and then answer questions.
Gift shop sale at ACMH Hospital
The ACMH Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual Christmas gift shop sale from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 17 and 18 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 19 in the main lobby and in the gift shop. All items are discounted 20 percent with the exception of balloons, candy and greeting cards.
Care and Share at Ford Memorial
The care and share shop will be open noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Ford Memorial United Methodist Church, 1024 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Gently used clothing will be sold. Proceeds benefit various missions of the church. The facility is handicap accessible. Questions may be directed to 724-763-1540.
Annual craft show in Chicora
The annual craft show will be held, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 18 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Chicora United Methodist Church, 201 Central Ave., Chicora. Event will feature locally made items and a book signing by Author Wayne Cole on his book about the railroad history of the area. Community Theater holds craft show
The Armstrong Community Theater will host a fall craft show with free admission will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Worthington Civic Center. Vendors include Pampered Chef, Lucy Bella Bowtique, Tastefully Simple, and a variety of crafts. Free concert set for Sunday
A free concert featuring musical selections from Bach, Brahms, Langlais and Stamitz will be performed by Randall Fry with accompaniment by his grandfather, Ed Frye, at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Worthington. As part of the ongoing Sundaes on Sunday music series, this second concert will be followed with free ice cream sundaes in the basement social room.
Free hot meal offered
A free hot meal will be served to any family or individual in need at 4 p.m. Saturday, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Kittanning. The meals and Christian fellowship are provided by the Whitesburg United Methodist Church’s By the Bridge ministry on the third Saturday of each month. Members of the Alliance Church will serve this month. Any organization interested in assisting with this ministry is asked to call 724-543-5333.
Elderton sets green and white night
The Elderton All Sports Boosters will hold green and white night Friday in the high school gymnasium. Doors open at 6 p.m. Fall and winter sports will be recognized at this time. Admission is free and concessions will be available.
Spaghetti dinner set as fundraiser
A spaghetti dinner benefit will be held for heart transplant patient William Fisher, of Rural Valley area, from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Rural Valley fire hall. Cost of meal is adults, $7, children younger than 12, $3.50, and free to 6 and younger. Take outs will be available. For advance tickets call 724-478-3322 or 724-783-6791. Menu will include spaghetti with meatballs, tossed salad, Italian bread, and cake. Sauce will be donated by The Villa in Cadogan. There will be a bake sale, silent auction, and donations will be accepted.
Train display will open Saturday
The Presbyterian Men’s 20th annual train display will be held at the Appleby Manor Presbyterian Church, 810 Main St., Ford City. Event will be open from 2-4 and 6:30-8:30 p.m. Nov. 19, 20, and 26; from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Nov. 21-25 including Thanksgiving evening. Admission is canned food for the Ford City Food Bank or a monetary donation. The mission is to help the local community by collecting canned goods for the Ford City Food Bank. Truckload sale set in Ford Cliff
The Ford Cliff Volunteer Fire Department will hold a discount truckload food sale from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 18 at the fire hall. Admission is free. Those attending are asked to take their own bags/boxes. Cash only will be accepted. Hot dogs and pop will be available.
Turkey shoot set for Sunday

Christmas auction set for Saturday
The Pine-Templeton Fire Co. will a hold Christmas auction on Saturday. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and auction will start at 6 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available at an additional fee. Proceeds will benefit the building fund.
