Background: Born to Uruguayan parents and speaks Spanish fluently. An ardent chef who has won awards in each of the past three years at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. Acted as Duquesne's mascot, "Duke the Bear," from 2001 to 2003.

Noteworthy: Selected as a board trustee of the Bethel Park Public Library, effective in January. She also taught Spanish there in November and will resume teaching in April.

Quote: "I was very poor at reading until about fifth grade. But when we moved to Miami, I went to the library because I didn't know anybody or have anything to do. After that, I went from straight C's to A's. So now, I want to make sure everyone knows that libraries are a great resource."
