Education: Bachelor of science in biology, St. Vincent College, 1969; medical degree, George Washington University, 1973

Background: Yates is an assistant clinical professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and co-directs the UPMC Corporate Health Program. He is a member of more than 10 medical organizations, including the American College of Sports Medicine and the NFL sub-committee on Cardiovascular Disease and Risk Prevention in the Athlete. He is president-elect of the NFL Physician's Society.

Noteworthy: Yates recently was awarded the Jerry "Hawk" Rhea Award by the National Football League Physician's Society, which is presented each year to an NFL team physician for distinguished years of service to a team. He has been the Steelers' physician for 32 years.
