Education: Bachelor of science degree in biology, Villanova University, 1981; medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, 1985

Background: After completing a residency in emergency medicine and a clinical research fellowship at Pitt from 1985-89, Yealy became a senior staff physician at the Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Texas and director of research for its Department of Emergency Medicine from 1990-93. He returned to Pittsburgh in 1993 as associate chief of what was then the Division of Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, as well as chief of emergency services for the former Presbyterian University Hospital. He has been a full professor of emergency medicine since 1999. Yealy had been vice chair of the emergency department since 1995.

Noteworthy: Recently became chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
