Newsmaker: Dr. Raman Purighalla

Education: Purighalla earned his medical degree at Rangaraya Medical College in Kikinada, India, in 1991. He completed residencies at the Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad, India, and Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. Most recently, Purighalla completed a research fellowship in the Department of Renal Transplant Nephrology at the University of Pittsburgh. His wife, a doctor, is on staff at St. Clair Hospital.

Noteworthy: Purighalla has been named the medical director of the Golden LivingCenter in Mt. Lebanon. The 30-year-old health care facility can serve as many as 121 elderly and disabled people in need of skilled nursing and rehabilitative care. Combined with the other two locations in the region, Golden LivingCenter has 36 physicians on staff, Purighalla said.
