Education : Kleyman received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and trained in internal medicine and nephrology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. He completed an undergraduate degree at Syracuse University.

Occupation : Professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and chief of renal division at UPMC.

Noteworthy : Kleyman was honored by the National Kidney Foundation last week at a banquet in the South Side and given the organization's Medical Gift of Life award for his kidney research. Kleyman has studied how the kidneys handle salt and how that affects the body.

Quote : "The amount of salt in the body is a major determinant of the volume in blood vessels and blood pressure. I consider myself very lucky to do this. I enjoy science and discovery."
