Background: Fishman served as the head law librarian at the Allegheny County Law Library from 1977 to 1999. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Constitutional Review Commission, created to determine if a new constitutional convention should be called to address issues affecting the state Constitution. He serves as co-director of a Pennsylvania Constitution website for Duquesne's Center for Legal Information and Allegheny County Law Library.

Noteworthy: Fishman has been appointed president of the Western Pennsylvania Law Library Association for 2010-11.
