Background: The former director of research for Radio Free Europe in Munich, Linden joined Pitt’s faculty in 1977. He has authored seven books on Central and Eastern Europe, and served as a Fulbright Research Scholar and Distinguished Lecturer in the former Yugoslavia, along with other prestigious posts in the United States. Most recently, he was awarded a Transatlantic Academy Fellowship from the German Marshall Fund.

Noteworthy: Linden has been named director of Pitt’s European Studies Center and European Center of Excellence. He follows Alberta Sbragia, who founded the internationally renowned programs to foster scholarship and teaching related to Europe.
