Noteworthy: The city of Pittsburgh this week recognized Costanzo and his Academy Schools by naming Tuesday "The Academy Day" and "Samuel A. Costanzo Day."

Age: 61

Residence: Fox Chapel

Occupation: Chief executive director and founder of The Academy Schools for delinquent youthd, a network of three schools in Western Pennsylvania

Background: Costanzo has devoted his life to the cause of juvenile rehabilitation, taking delinquent children from the court system and putting them through a rigorous series of programs that provide the education, training and coping skills they need. Since opening his first juvenile rehabilitation facility in 1982, more than 20,000 juvenile offenders have attended Costanzo's three schools.

Education: Bachelor of arts degree in political science from Duquesne University, 1972
