Occupation: Retired vice president for geriatric services and administrative director for the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC's Institute on Aging

Education: Master's degree in nutrition and food science from the University of Kentucky and master's degree in public health from the University of Pittsburgh

Background: Iyengar spent most of her career developing and directing clinical programs and services for older adults. During her tenure at UPMC, she served as president of Canterbury Place, a UPMC Senior Community, as well as administrator of the Benedum Geriatric Center. She was instrumental in the development of the Aging Institute, a partnership of UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh.

Noteworthy: She is the 2010 Celebrating Senior Champions Sharing and Caring Champion Honoree, an award given by UPMC Senior Services.

Quote: "In our region, aging (programs) are important because of our demographics. We are second to Dade County in Florida in the percentage of people over 65."
