No. 7 UConn women down Purdue

STORRS, Conn. - Renee Montgomery matched her career high with 26 points to lead No. 7 Connecticut past No. 9 Purdue, 66-55, on Thursday.

With the game tied at 18, UConn (4-0) went on a 17-2 run and take a 15-point lead at halftime. Montgomery had 10 points during the spurt, drawing the crowd to its feet with an acrobatic three-point play. The sophomore guard capped the run with a 3-pointer and two free throws to finish the half with 16 points.

Purdue (6-1), which was averaging 73.7 points coming into the game, scored the first five points of the second half to close within 10, but Montgomery answered with a 3-pointer.

No. 2 North Carolina 103, UNC Greensboro 48

In Chapel Hill, N.C., Camille Little scored 16 points for North Carolina (7-0).

Jasmine Byrd hit 4-of-9 3-pointers and led UNC Greensboro (4-2) with 16 points.

No. 6 Ohio St. 68, Longwood 33

In Columbus, Ohio, Marscilla Packer and Brandie Hoskins scored 15 points apiece to lead Ohio State to the rout of Longwood.

The Buckeyes (6-0) opened the game with a 17-4 run over the first seven minutes and led, 41-9, at halftime before clearing the bench in the second half.

No. 12 Vanderbilt 85, UAB 63

In Birmingham, Ala., Carla Thomas had 32 points and 11 rebounds to lead Vanderbilt.

The Commodores (7-0) shot 56.4 percent from the floor and 88.9 percent from 3-point range.

No. 13 Baylor 64, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 62

In Waco, Texas, Bernice Mosby nailed a short jumper with 2.2 seconds remaining to lift Baylor over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

No. 19 Louisville 63, Xavier 59

In Cincinnati, Angel McCoughtry had 12 points and 13 rebounds to help Louisville beat Xavier.

Brandie Radde also had 12 points for Louisville (7-0).

District women

West Virginia 73, Houston 47

Senior guard Britney Davis-White scored a game-high 17 points, all in the second half, to lead West Virginia (4-3) to a nonconference win over Houston (0-5). Houston was held to just 27 percent shooting from the floor.

Hillsdale 91, Mercyhurst 59

Thirteen different players scored at least two points for Hillsdale (5-0) in a nonconference victory over Mercyhurst (2-3).

Bethany (W.Va.) 72, Franciscan 28

Renee Brandenburg scored 14 points and Mandi Swiger added 13, as Bethany (W.Va.) (2-5) overwhelmed Franciscan (4-4).

Glenville State 69, Seton Hill 50

Rachel Redick led all scorers with 28 points, as Glenville State (5-0) defeated Seton Hill (1-3) in a nonconference matchup.

Gannon 87, Wayne State 66

Christina Jackson dominated, as she scored 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Gannon (3-1, 1-0) past Wayne State (1-4, 0-1) in the GLIAC opener for both teams.

Mt. Aloysius 89, Lancaster Bible 41

Brianna Baker scored 26 points and added 10 rebounds to lead Mt. Aloysius (3-2) to a blowout win over Lancaster Bible (1-4).

Top 25 men

No. 22 Gonzaga 69, Portland St. 51

In Spokane, Wash., Derek Raivio scored 20 points, and Gonzaga beat Portland State to extend the nation's longest home winning streak to 44.

Josh Heytvelt had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Sean Mallon scored 14 for Gonzaga (7-1).

District men

Slippery Rock 79, West Virginia Wesleyan 60

Four players recorded double-figure scoring efforts and interim head coach Jamal Palmer earned his first collegiate victory, as Slippery Rock (1-3) defeated West Virginia Wesleyan (1-6).

Bethany (W.Va.) 98, Franciscan 62

Chris Stephens scored nine points and 13 assists to lead Bethany (W.Va.) (4-2) to a decisive victory over Franciscan (2-7).

Hillsdale 72, Mercyhurst 69

Avi Fogel played all 40 minutes and scored 28 points, but it was not enough as Mercyhurst (3-2) lost a nonconference game at Hillsdale (4-0).

Wayne State 70, Gannon 67

Kris Krzyminski scored 41 points in Wayne State's (3-0, 1-0) GLIAC victory over Gannon (2-2, 0-1).
