No ‘accomplishment’

We wonder what is wrong with the state of high school education in this country and along comes WVU visiting professor Rick A. Breault and his letter " SAT perspective " (Sept. 23 and TribLIVE.com) to put it all in perspective.

I had to read his statement that a three-point decline in the average reading score "could be considered quite an accomplishment by the nation's teachers" twice, just to make sure my eyes had not gone out of focus as my head spun!

No matter how insignificant the decline is, it is absolutely insane to try to spin it as an accomplishment.

Only a "teacher" could see it that way. That, folks, is the problem! My head hurts!
