The news story “W. Pa. schools still emphasize cursive writing” (Sept. 12 and TribLIVE.com) talks about kids mastering that skill. Although the story explains that cursive writing is very beneficial and is good for students to learn, I, however, do not believe this to be true.

I am a high school senior, and having completed grades K-11, I do not believe this skill is vital to the learning process. I learned how to write cursive in second grade and since then have not used it.

Although cursive was a good skill to have, it is no longer needed with the advancement of technology. More and more students are writing essays online because they are easier for teachers to grade. It is easier and faster to type an essay than it is to handwrite one.

Although it may be good to know how to handwrite a thank-you note, cursive is no longer a needed skill because of technology.
