No report on body found in Lower Burrell
Westmoreland and Allegheny county officials Monday declined to say how Kelly Nicole Smith died, but they still classify her death as suspicious.
Smith’s body was found at about noon Thursday in the Allegheny River near the mouth of Chartiers Run in the Braeburn section of Lower Burrell.
Smith, 27, of Brackenridge, was the married mother of two.
The Westmoreland County Coroner’s continues to refuse to make public the cause and manner of Smith’s death,
County District Attorney John Peck said the coroner’s office told him that the office has not determined her cause of death or how she died.
The coroner’s office earlier said certain tests, including a toxicology exam, are being done routinely.
Investigators have refused to say if there were any visible wounds on Smith or if she drowned. They also declined to say if any evidence has been found suggesting when she may have entered the river.
Because two counties and a borough are involved, Westmoreland detectives are working with their Allegheny County counterparts and Brackenridge police. Among other things, they are talking with people who saw Smith in the days before her death.
Allegheny County Police Superintendent Charles Moffatt and Brackenridge Police Chief Jaime Bock confirmed that detectives are assisting.
