The North Allegheny School Board has hired an educational services agency in eastern Pennsylvania to help search for a superintendent.

The board voted Wednesday to hire the Chester County Intermediate Unit in Downingtown to recruit candidates, screen and select them for interviews, assist in the interview process and check references, according to district officials.

The cost for the services is expected to be about $20,000.

The board also voted to name Robert Scherrer to the post of acting superintendent of schools. Scherrer has been serving as a substitute superintendent since mid-July, when Raymond D. Gualtieri resigned for medical reasons.
