A North Braddock woman will spend five years on probation for stealing about $23,000 in gift cards, cash and other valuable items from neighborhood mailbox centers in Shadyside and the South Side, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.

Carolyn Korotko, 41, pleaded guilty in July to mail theft and destroying mailboxes. As part of her sentence, U.S. District Judge Mark Hornak ordered her to spend the first six months on home incarceration, which means she can’t leave her house at all, and the next six months on home confinement, which allows her to leave for a few reasons such as work, church or doctor visits.

Hornak also ordered Korotko to pay $2,264.78 in restitution.
