North Versailles car dealer accused of bilking auction

A North Versailles car dealer is accused of falsifying auto registration titles and using worthless checks to purchase three cars from the Perryopolis Auto Auction last July.

Shawn Scheirer, owner of Shawn Scheirer Auto Sales of North Versailles, was charged by state police at Belle Vernon with six counts of theft by deception and three counts each of issuing bad checks, tampering with public records and making false applications for vehicle title certificates.

The charges were filed earlier this month before District Justice Michael Rubish of Perryopolis. Scheirer faces a preliminary hearing April 18 before Rubish.

Trooper William E. Coddington, vehicle fraud investigator, alleged that on July 7, 2000, one of Scheirer's representatives used bad checks to buy three cars at the auto auction on Route 51 in Perryopolis.

Scheirer's business then allegedly falsified records on title certificates to get duplicate titles. Scheirer then allegedly sold the cars before satisfying the liens from the auto auction.
