Daniel McGeever

Residence: Marshall

Age: 16

Family: Parents Casey and Jocelyne McGeever; a sister, Sara-Clare, 14

School: He is in the 11th grade and is home-schooled

Noteworthy: McGeever is one of only five students named a National AP Scholar by the College Board as a result of Advanced Placement tests he took by the end of the 10th grade last year. The honor is given to students in the United States who receive an average grade of at least 4 on all AP exams taken and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of the exams. The tests are graded on a 5-point scale, and students typically can get college credit for grades of 3 or higher. McGeever has taken three AP tests in physics and AP tests in chemistry, calculus, statistics, macroeconomics, microeconomics and U.S. government. Last year, 128,544 students took the tests. This year, he is taking three online AP courses -- computer science, English and composition and U.S. history.

Hobbies/Activities: Daniel is a black belt in tae kwon do, is an avid reader and plays chess and computer games.

Quote: "I just like to know stuff. It's a lot of fun to learn all this stuff. The more I learn, the more I connect all the things I know. The math is more interesting when you know the history of the mathematician who created the formula."
