Residence : Franklin Park. Age : 18. School : Shevchik is a recent graduate of North Allegheny Senior High School and will attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., this fall. Family : Parents, George and Nicole Shevchik; a brother Michael, 24; and a sister Maria, 15. Noteworthy : Shevchik was appointed to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point after being nominated by former Congresswoman Melissa Hart, R-Bradford Woods. Activities/interests: Shevchik was a member of his high school’s National Honor Society and varsity baseball team. He served as class council president his freshman and sophomore years. He worked two jobs, at Soergel Orchards and as a youth sports instructor at the YMCA, both in Franklin Park. He volunteered with the Together for Retarded Youth Program through his high school. Quote : “My appointment to West Point has been a blessing. It is an outstanding opportunity to broaden my horizons and get one of the greatest educations in the world. It has been my dream to serve alongside my brother, who is a 1st lieutenant, as an officer in the United States Army, along with every other soldier that bears the flag across his sleeve.”
