Toddlers and preschoolers in the Norwin area have monthly Friday night movies. The program has been wildly successful. So, in an effort to create a program that showcases the Norwin Public Library DVD collection and gives adults a chance to interact while watching old favorites, the Norwin Public Library has created the Classic Movie Showing.

The new program gives area residents a chance to meet, watch a classic movie from the library's collection with a chance to talk about the movie afterward. The next showing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday in the community room at the library. The feature for March will be "Oklahoma."

"The way schedules were working, it looks like we're going to be running the program the third Thursday of the month," said Diana Fuehrer Falk, library director. "We want to try to keep the times consistent so that our patrons can work the program into their schedules."

Falk added that the program was meant to highlight the library's DVD collection and give patrons who may not own a DVD player a chance to view some of their old favorite movies since the library is no longer purchasing new videos for its collection. Prior showings included "Casablanca" and "It Happened One Night."

"So far the Classic Movie Showings have been sparsely attended, mostly with holiday and weather conflicts, but this is a program we would really like to get off the ground," Falk said. "We're hoping that the program will build momentum. We will certainly honor requests for future showings, and I wouldn't be opposed to purchasing additional movies for a showing if it's for a movie we do not currently have in our collection."
