I read with interest the front-page article in the Tribune-Review of Aug. 28 titled " Festival panel learns it can't ban church for soliciting ".
Although on the first page the article does mentions that members of the Pennsville Baptist Church had, in the past, handed out Chick Publications tracts at the festival, the article's continuation on page 5 had the title "Festival panel learns it can't ban proselytizing."
This Baptist church is not "proselytizing," that is, trying to convert people to its religion. Chick Publications tracts are virulent anti-Catholic hate literature. The aim of Chick Publications is not to turn people toward Jesus, but to incite people to hate the Catholic Church. I wouldn't call that "proselytizing".
However, it's nice to know that the festival has decided in favor of free speech. Now people can go there and distribute anti-Jewish literature, anti-black literature or anti-Muslim literature, all in the name of free speech, and no one will be allowed to be offended by their tracts. Will there be burning crosses at the festival, too?
