Notebook: Bobby Vosmaer expected to be named the new boys soccer coach at NA

Former professional soccer player Bobby Vosmaer is expected to be named the new boys soccer coach at North Allegheny High School, replacing Bruno Schwarz , the winningest soccer coach in PIAA history. Vosmaer played for the Dutch National team and played pro soccer for 17 years, including with the Pittsburgh Spirit. He also has coached in the Canadian Professional Soccer League. He is currently director of the North Stars Soccer Club. Schwarz was 529-129-50 in 37 seasons at North Allegheny. Middle infielders Brian Bernardo and Brian Schwartzbauer of the Shaler High School baseball team signed with Duquesne University on Wednesday, as part of national letter of intent day. Other signees included Baldwin center fielder Brett Holland (Monmouth) and Chartiers-Houston shortstop/pitcher Dan Novak (Liberty). Team North Dakota defeated Team Pittsburgh, 5-4, in the Chicago Showcase Hockey Tournament. Mark Polidor of West Allegheny and Mario Panucci of Montour had a goal and an assist each for Team Pittsburgh. Team Pittsburgh will play Team Wisconsin today. Digits 0 Hits given up by Monaca pitcher L.B. Smith in a no-hitter against Cornell on Wednesday. Smith also recorded five strikeouts in the win. 17 Strikeouts recorded by Carlynton pitcher Brittany Welsh in a complete-game shutout win over Beaver yesterday. 18 Strikeouts recorded by Ellwood City pitcher Kaitlyn Schuster in 10 scoreless innings of work in a 3-0 victory over Pine-Richland yesterday.
