Notebook: Burnett receiving treatment for elbow injury

Joe Rutter

Sean Burnett, who was placed on the disabled list Monday, is scheduled to receive treatment on his left elbow for a few days before beginning a throwing program. Burnett had been experiencing elbow soreness for several weeks before he left Saturday's start in St. Louis because of injury. A diagnostic test showed that Burnett has inflammation in the elbow, a sign of fatigue. That could explain why Burnett's ERA has risen from 2.18 to 5.02 in his past six starts.

  • Dave Williams is expected to throw off a mound today for the first time since straining a right rib cage muscle. He is eligible to come off the disabled list Saturday.

  • Nelson Figueroa has been assigned the locker that previously belonged to Brian Boehringer. After having season-ending surgery on his right shoulder, Boehringer has returned home to St. Louis where he will continue his rehabilitation.

  • Altoona first baseman Brad Eldred has homered in three consecutive games and has 12 homers in his past 17 games. He has 14 RBI in his past four games and 42 in 95 at-bats. Between Lynchburg and Altoona, Eldred is batting .305 with 29 doubles, 33 homers and 119 RBI.
