Notebook: Clarion’s Vaughns cracks 1,000-point club

Clarion senior guard Terrance Vaughns (Uniontown) became the 25th men's player in school history to score 1,000 points, when he scored 15 points in the Golden Eagles 76-58 win last weekend.   • Pitt wrestler Ronald Tarquinio recorded his 100th career win and is now ranked 11th among Pitt's all-time win leaders. A three-time NCAA Championship qualifier and former conference champion, Tarquinio won the EWL Championship as a sophomore, and the Las Vegas Championship as a junior.

  • Penn State wrestler Rohan Murphy has qualified for the fourth International Powerlifting Paralympic Championships in Buran, Korea. Murphy, a bilateral amputee, who is a member of the Lions wrestling team, and coach Troy Sunderland, posted a lift of 285-pounds, which set a national record at 125-pounds for paralympians.

  • The Mercyhurst women's basketball program signed four recruits during the early signing period for the 2006-07 season. Rachel Divosevic (North Allegheny), Mara Dreiser, Colleen Quinn and Lindsey Whipkey will join the Lakers next season.

  • The Big Ten Conference announced that tickets for the 2006 conference men's and women's basketball tournaments will go on sale to the general public today at 10 a.m.
