Notebook: Fedorov, Kournikova were married, divorced

The Associated Press

From Russia, with love -- for a short time, anyway.

Anna Kournikova and Sergei Fedorov were married and divorced, his agent said, confirming rumors that began 11/2 years ago.

"He was married to her. I honestly don't know when he got married to her -- all I know is that he was married," agent Pat Brisson said Monday. "He's kind of surprised that everyone's asking him the same question."

Asked about reports of a marriage, the Detroit Red Wings' forward told The Hockey News magazine for its March 14 issue: "They are true. We were married, albeit brief, and we are now divorced."

He said he doesn't keep in touch with the tennis player.

Approached after practice in Columbus, Ohio, where the Red Wings were to play the Blue Jackets, Fedorov waved off questions on the subject, saying only, "Ask her."

Kournikova's agent did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

VAN IMPE ON IR

Blue Jackets defenseman Darren Van Impe went on injured reserve with a broken right foot that is expected to sideline him for up to five weeks.

He was hurt Feb. 21 in a game against San Jose.

Van Impe joined Columbus on Jan. 20 from AHL club Syracuse.

He has one goal and one assist in 14 games with Columbus.

Stars put Guerin, DiMaio on injured list, activate Morrow

The Dallas Stars activated left wing Brenden Morrow and placed Bill Guerin and Rob DiMaio on the injured list.

Morrow had missed nine games since bruising his chest against the Carolina Hurricanes on Feb. 11. He has 16 goals, 18 assists and 92 penalty minutes in 55 games this season.

The Stars hope Morrow can replace some of the scoring punch they lost when Guerin sustained a possible season-ending injury.

Guerin, second on the Stars with 25 goals and 50 points, had emergency surgery to relieve a buildup of blood in his severely bruised right thigh on Saturday. He was injured Thursday when he collided with Ottawa defenseman Chris Phillips.

DiMaio bruising his chest against Calgary last Thursday and is listed as day-to-day.

Also, Dallas sent goaltender Corey Hirsch to Utah of the American Hockey League and called up Jason Bacashihua.

The 20-year-old Bacashihua was the 26th pick of the 2001 draft. He is 14-15-1 with a 3.25 goals-against average in 31 games with Utah.

Hirsch did not appear in a game since being recalled Feb. 13.

NASHVILLE TRADES FOR PETROV

The Nashville Predators added a scorer for their push toward the playoffs, acquiring forward Oleg Petrov in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens.

Nashville, sitting in ninth place in the Western Conference and fighting for the first playoff berth in the expansion team's five-year history, gave Montreal a fourth-round pick in this year's entry draft.

The 31-year-old Petrov has seven goals and 16 assists in 53 games this season. He scored a career-high 24 goals last season, and in 2000-01 he had career highs in assists (30) and points (47).

"Petrov is a fast and skilled winger who will be able to contribute offensively," Nashville general manager David Poile said in a statement. "He is also a veteran player who has been involved in the playoff hunt before, and his presence gives the team greater depth and gives the coaches more flexibility with the lineup."

Petrov was expected to join the Predators for Tuesday night's game at St. Louis.

The Predators found themselves in need of a scoring threat after points leader David Legwand broke his right collarbone in an overtime victory Saturday against Chicago. He's expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks.

Petrov, in his eighth NHL season, had 70 goals and 113 assists in 365 games with Montreal. He was named to the all-rookie team in 1994.

CANES RECALL MALEC

The Carolina Hurricanes recalled defenseman Tomas Malec from Lowell of the AHL.

Malec was reassigned to Lowell on Feb. 24 as the team looked at several prospects from its AHL affiliate. In 30 games with Lowell this season, Malec had four assists.

He was first recalled Dec. 11 and had two assists in 25 games with Carolina.

The Hurricanes acquired Malec from Florida along with Bret Hedican and Kevyn Adams last January in a deal that sent All-Star defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh to the Panthers.
